Staysure Travel Insurance Compared: Single Trip, Annual and Cruise Cover

Compare Staysure Ireland’s single-trip, annual multi-trip and cruise cover to see which option matches your travel plans and what to check in the policy terms.

Choosing travel insurance is partly about the destination and partly about how often you travel. A policy for one booked holiday has a different job from cover intended to run across several trips, while a cruise can bring specific risks that a standard policy may not address in the same way.

Staysure’s Ireland site lists all three routes, alongside policy levels and optional extras. We reviewed the provider’s Ireland product information; the detail below is a guide to the choices, not a substitute for checking the policy wording against your itinerary and circumstances.

The short version

  • One holiday: Single Trip cover is designed for one round trip, with listed benefits including cancellation, baggage and emergency medical cover.
  • Several holidays: Annual Multi-Trip combines trips under one annual policy; Staysure says its annual cover can include up to 183 travel days in total.
  • A cruise: Cruise cover addresses cruise-related events such as missed port departures and unused excursions.
  • Medical history matters: Staysure says it can cover most pre-existing conditions, subject to eligibility and medical screening.
  • Terms decide the fit: Check the destination area, maximum trip length, policy level, excess and extras before choosing.

Three cover routes

These options solve different planning problems. The table is a starting point: benefits and limits can differ by policy level, traveller details and destination. For each option, read the current Ireland product page and the policy documents before purchase.

Annual Multi-Trip Travel InsuranceSeveral holidays in a yearMaximum days per trip and total travel days

Staysure’s pages describe medical and repatriation cover, cancellation and baggage benefits, but the amount and conditions are set by the selected policy level and its wording. The broad labels do not tell you whether a particular claim is covered: check the exclusions and limits that apply to your trip.

One booked holiday

Single Trip Travel Insurance is aimed at a single round trip, whether that is a short break or a longer holiday. Staysure lists cancellation, baggage and emergency medical cover among its features, and says cancellation protection can begin from the policy start date. That timing makes it worth arranging cover when you book, then confirming the start date and cancellation terms.

It may be a straightforward fit if you have one main trip planned and want the dates to match that itinerary. The key limit is also its defining feature: one trip per policy, with separate holidays generally meaning separate cover decisions. If you expect to travel more than once, compare the combined cost and terms with the annual alternative through the Annual Multi-Trip option, rather than assuming either format is automatically better value.

A single-trip policy follows the dates and destination of one planned holiday.

Before selecting a single-trip policy, make a short checklist: the whole journey including connecting travel, every destination, pre-existing conditions for each insured traveller, and planned activities. Staysure offers optional extras such as cruise or winter sports cover on relevant trips. Check that the activity is included and whether an extra must be added; a general travel policy label alone does not confirm it.

Several holidays

Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance puts multiple holidays within a twelve-month policy period. The Ireland page says trips can add up to 183 days in total across the year. That can suit people with several breaks on the calendar, who prefer one renewal date and the same broad policy structure each time.

Annual cover still has boundaries. Check the maximum length of any individual trip, the total travel-day allowance, destinations covered and whether all travellers meet the eligibility rules. A long stay may need a different option. And an annual policy only helps if its cover fits the trip: confirm cruise or winter sports cover is included when relevant, and check the policy schedule rather than inferring it from the product name.

Frequent travel can make an annual policy worth comparing against separate trips.

Compare the annual option with the single-trip policy in the context of your expected travel, not a generic trip count. A traveller taking several short breaks may value repeat cover, while someone with one long journey may need to focus on trip-duration rules. Staysure states that its annual multi-trip insurance can cover most pre-existing conditions, but applicants still need to disclose medical information and meet the insurer’s terms.

Cruise-specific needs

Cruise Travel Insurance is the option to examine when a sailing is part of the itinerary. Staysure identifies cruise-related situations including missed port departures and unused excursions, as well as medical emergencies at sea or in port and emergency evacuation. Those details matter because help at sea or a missed connection at a port can involve different arrangements from an ordinary land-based holiday.

The cruise page says cover can be added to eligible plans, and that annual cover can include cruise cover when selected. Check whether it is included in the quote and policy documents, how missed departures and excursions are defined, and what conditions apply to medical assistance. If the cruise is one part of a longer trip, confirm the whole journey is covered from departure to return.

Cruise cover can address events specific to sailing and port calls.

For a sailing, compare the cruise cover details with the itinerary itself: port transfers, shore excursions, time at sea and any pre- or post-cruise stay. Ask whether your planned activities are covered and review the medical emergency and evacuation terms. If you are considering an annual policy, also revisit its trip duration limits and verify the cruise component appears in the documents.

Before you choose

Use the quote journey to match the policy with the people and trip being insured. Staysure’s site describes cover for most pre-existing medical conditions and offers a medical screening route. This is a useful feature for travellers whose health history can make mainstream policies harder to arrange, but it is not blanket acceptance: answer medical questions fully and check what the quote confirms. Disclosure is essential for the insurer to assess the application.

  1. Set out the dates, destinations and maximum duration for every trip you want covered.
  2. List each traveller’s medical conditions and complete the insurer’s screening accurately.
  3. Choose the policy level and check limits for cancellation, medical costs, baggage and excess.
  4. Add relevant extras, then verify them in the schedule and policy wording.
  5. Keep the emergency assistance details with your travel documents.

Staysure highlights a 24/7 medical emergency helpline and medical and repatriation cover across its policy levels. Treat those as starting points for comparison: limits, exclusions and eligibility matter. If a benefit is central to your decision, look it up in the current policy booklet or ask Staysure to clarify it before you buy.

Common questions

Can annual cover include a cruise?

Staysure says cruise cover can be included with annual multi-trip insurance. Select or confirm the cruise option before purchase, and check that it appears in the policy documents for your trip.

Does Staysure cover pre-existing conditions?

The Ireland site says most pre-existing conditions may be covered, subject to medical screening and terms. Declare relevant medical information and rely on the written outcome of the insurer’s assessment.

Which policy should cover a long holiday?

Compare the maximum trip length on Single Trip and Annual Multi-Trip cover with your exact itinerary. Staysure also lists Long Stay insurance for journeys that do not fit standard trip limits.

Our take

Choose around your real travel pattern: Single Trip for one defined holiday, annual cover when repeated trips fit its duration rules, and cruise cover when sailing-specific benefits matter. For all three, Staysure’s focus on medical screening may be relevant to travellers with existing conditions, but the policy documents are what establish the cover.

The main limitation is that the product labels cannot settle eligibility or claim details. Policy level, destination and trip length, medical disclosures and extras can all change the result, so compare the quote and terms against your plans before paying.
